The below match report is from Gene Hall:
06012025-Match-Summary-Award 06012025-Match-SummaryCan we all accept the beautiful weather we enjoyed at Sunday’s match at DBGC as Mother Nature’s apology for the nasty weather at the Gary Martens Memorial Match in May this year? We couldn’t ask for a better day! Moderate temperatures and light breezes combined with the company of great competitors to make great conditions for an outdoor 2700 match. But of course we must have a little drama. As soon as Chris Odom plugged in the controller and microphone to announce the National Anthem to begin the match, the whole system went down. We eventually learned that the plug at the range director station broke and the controller shorted out, blowing the main fuse that operates the PLC that controls target turning, voice commands, and weather. (The weather control module has never worked, but it was a nice idea.)
The Slow Fire portion of the 22 Match went forward with the frantic action of local club members diagnosing problems and running off to retrieve batteries and extension cords to enable jury-rigged operation of the system. By the time we had to turn the targets we were able to go forward by using manual timers and plugging or unplugging an extension cord to turn the targets. Poor Chris was taxed with recalling the line commands we haven’t used in fifteen years, having instead relied on the system recordings. But he got us through to the Slow Fire portion of the Center Fire Match, which gave us time to make some crude repairs and continue the rest of the match with the automated target turning and voice commands. It is our good fortune that Scott Dial was among the competitors Sunday, and he has offered to supply an alternative system like the one used by the Indy League. We will have that in place before the next match, hopefully along with more permanent repairs to the original system.
Thank you to all the shooters who soldiered on despite the difficulties to have a great match. Personally, I enjoyed meeting some folks I have known only by seeing their names in shooting results or other correspondence, and seeing again old friends I haven’t seen for a long time. There are a lot of really great people in this sport!
So this one is in the books, and the results are attached. Hope you can all come back for our next match in August and the Regional Ken Odom Memorial in September. Match announcements are attached.
