Hello everyone. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Sorry I have not submitted an article in a while, sometimes things just get too hectic. That is no excuse and I apologize. There are a few things that I would like to bring to your attention. Last May at the Scarborough Fish & Game Assn. in Scarborough, Maine, they hosted a Just for Women competition clinic. This club had ranges for ATA trap, sporting clays, 5-stand, wobble trap, high power rifle, IDPA action pistol, bulls-eye pistol and archery. It sounds like an interesting concept even though statistics in the article stated that in a 2010 review of NRA classification data, 9.12% of competitive shooters were women. My goal this coming year is to increase the percentage of women shooting competitively. I would also like to set up a similar type of clinic here in Indiana for women to get comfortable with shooting guns and to enjoy the sport just as their husbands, boyfriends and other men in their life do. I will contact the DNR and see if there is a way to have something similar to this and will keep you informed as I find out more. Also, the upcoming Becoming an Outdoor Woman is scheduled for May 4-6 at Ross Camp in West Lafayette. Registration starts in 2012 and the cost for these workshops is $175.00. Sign up soon if this is something that would interest you because the workshops fill up quickly. If you go to www.indianabow.com you will find the registration form and the workshops being offered and a list of items that you would need to bring. Some of the workshops offered are; advanced shotgun, ATV use and safety, backpacking, backyard wildlife, basic archery, canoeing, fishing and shotgun and a few others. These workshops are not just for shooting but give the basic skills for enjoying the great outdoors. Come on and join me for an exciting weekend getting back to nature. I would love to meet some of you. Along with information about women's competitive shooting through the Indiana DNR there is also some interest in having a women's shoot in Rochester. Stay tuned for further information on this as well. If you have anything that would interest you as a woman shooter or some type of event you would like to see, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
