Monday (January 31) afternoon, the four firearms bill that passed the Senate committee will be on the Senate floor for 2nd Reading. All debate and discussion will be among the Senators -- the public will watch and listen to the debate from the gallery or outside the Senate chambers windows.
Wednesday (February 2) morning at 8:30 A.M., the House Public Policy Committee will hold its first hearing on firearms bills that were assigned to it upon introduction. The public is invited to attend and testify if they desire. As of now, the meeting has not been posted on the website, so I do not know what room will be used -- but it will be in a 1st floor hearing room. House Bill 1540 is a companion to Senate Bill 292, which is the much needed State pre-emption bill that passed the Senate committee. House Bill 1546, like Senate Bill 506, would allow a person lawfully possessing a handgun to transport it to a shooting range, an institutional training course, or a legal hunting activity without having a license to carry a handgun.
Information on activities at the Legislature, such as bills introduced, members contact information, committee schedules, etc., can be obtained at www.in.gov.
Hoosiers who appreciate the right to keep and bear arms should contact their State Senator regarding those bills which will be on the floor for 2nd Reading Monday. If possible they should also attend the House committee hearing on Wednesday morning to show their support to the Representatives who are sponsoring the bills. The public can sign up to speak (for or against) or just sign up "for or against" without speaking.
Now is the time to be heard.
